I’m concerned about the long term structural support afford ed by blue painter’s tape... in my experience, it can barely support itself after 24 hours

Yeah, I’d at least want it wrapped around the pole, so if it starts falling, it will pull the stuff on the backside tighter, hopefully helping it stay on.
